My Flower of Enchantment
Samir Dass
Original poem: Binoy Majumder
My flower of enchantment, as if chocolate, I satisfy
My thirst absorbing its essence instead of devouring it,
I forget my long thirst in invention, in love.
Much have I thought, much have I learnt in my heart, lacerated by unending torment,
What ache is, what is deep blue –
Of hearts, of the universe; what the stoical bird is.
Or a dragonfly that flies away spreading its glassy wings.
Flies away breathing over the heart of the young man.
Enraptured in sickness, I enjoy the scenery, I see at the window
The universe salivate in the guise of the wind.
I’m hypnotized; you flew away; come back, come back, Chaka,
In a chariot, in victory, come in eternal poetry.
We will be the song in the saint land, will be love,
Will mingle into the universe being abstract symphony.
