Morning Walk
Rakesh Sikder
For us Lazy Bengalis, I have always thought
Jogging would be too much of an activity
That our faint heart would dare take;
So ‘jog’ is deduced to ‘walk’ and
“Now you are talking!”
Says the pot-bellied man
Running futile at his sweet forties.
Says the shy mother of two who has
Newly been diagnosed as diabetic;
Also says the gold digger who
Has exuded sweat enough to fill a well
In search of a powerful connection over this ‘walk’;
Says the tea-stall vendor too,
Because a running man would seldom
Notice his stall and stop to have a cup.
So, there’s much to our benefit
But not to the strays of streets, sadly,
Against their will, they leave their asphalt bed
To help people accommodate and tread upon
And are often seen venting this rage
On the much smaller feline creed,
This ultimately ends up on Instagram.
And means more likes and shares for us
Who just went this morning for a simple ‘walk’.
