Din of Chagrin
Alistair T.S.E. Allen
Smile wide, not snide, all the while
throughout pandemic fear’s guile
in neat six-feet distanced file
mile upon mile in exile
without us getting too riled,
just smile on through vile trial
spit out alienating bile
and poems from domicile
in hidden heroic style…
Lean in to grin without any chagrin
as you grimly spin winsome freedom’s vim
Don’t let your gregarious guffaws dim
Latch onto lost liberty’s kith and kin
Trim not your wild joie de vivre’s tree limbs
Though bird of paradise song now seems slim
Don’t fall for terror’s fiercesome flam nor flim
Chuckle at man-made muddle
Eat a truffle for each trouble
Cuddle in your huddled bubble
Skip puddles as you scuttle
Yodel yearnings so subtle
Flutter wings as you trundle
down byways with wine bottle
Spend lotto not in brothel
O ghetto grotto, mottled moans throttle!
