Mon Complice

You came to earth

I followed your fate

I was the sinner

You were a mere mate.

I was a sibling of your children

But they fought over me

The reason for their sin

I was the one to be.

I was Grendel’s mother

I was Clytemnestra

You made me Helen

And I burnt your heaven.

I was Sita I was Kali

I was Parvati I was Panchali

You called me your muse

How could I ever refuse?

I was the recluse

Without your refuge

Your history haunted me

With your subterfuge.

I carry your progeny

I cook your meal

I cater to your passion

What’s the big deal.

Nature has ordained so

I will slave-like go

And if I fail to abide

You will surely bestride.

Darling, let us get it clear

I am born to be your fear

I am a criminal by birth

And I steal all your mirth.

And yet I am your only bliss

I am no Muse

I am a Maker

If you love me, be my accomplice.
