Poor People Dream
Paula Louise Shene
People of every color, creed, and culture cry
Out to the heavens for justice to be brought nigh
On the oppressed some brothers against brothers
Rectitude lay within the heart or ego on druthers
Purpose for survival for many makes choices leading
Even should harm through actions leave siblings pleading
Only, my brother, I cry for relief from your killings
Pushed into slavery and used as grist for the millings
Leaving our culture crushed, gashed, and bloodied
Evening tide sorrow surrounds home emotions muddied
Damned for generations, cursed by evilness personified
Rising above only in choice and repentance to abide
Everlasting laying down sword and shield
Almighty God to whom only I yield
Mankind must learn lessons on own or
Strike, and forever fall dead on the field.
